Drive-In Rack in Elyria, OH
Drive-in rack in Elyria makes sense when a building holds many pallets of only a few items. Instead of an aisle for every row, forklifts drive straight into the lanes and set loads on rails running along each side.
You give up access to every single pallet. In exchange, you can store far more pallets in the same floor area than selective rack allows.
How Drive-In Rack Lanes Work
The structure looks simple, but every dimension is tied to your pallets and your trucks.
Rails instead of beams
Pallets rest on continuous load rails attached to the uprights. There are no front beams inside the lane, which is what lets the truck enter.
Last in, first out
A drive-in lane is loaded and unloaded from one end, so whichever load went in most recently comes out before the rest. It suits stock that does not need strict date rotation.
Drive-thru option
Drive-thru racking opens both ends. Loads go in one side and come out the other, giving first-in, first-out flow at the cost of a second aisle.
Floor guides
Guide rails at floor level keep the forklift centered in the lane and protect uprights from wheel and mast contact.
Is Drive-In Pallet Rack Right for Your Elyria Building?
Industrial equipment makers and component distributors along SR-57 often stock a few production parts or finished units in deep quantities. When each SKU fills several pallets, a lane four to eight deep stays full and earns its space.
If your SKU list is long and each item has only one or two pallets, drive-in is the wrong tool. Pallets get buried, and drivers spend time moving loads to reach the one they need. Pushback or selective rack serves that profile better.
Elyria projects run through our parent, Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co.; this team is its division, and the company has put in pallet storage since 1997. We will tell you plainly when a denser system will not pay off.

Elyria Plants, Corridors and Lane Layout
Much of Elyria's industrial stock is older factory space where ceilings run 14 to 24 feet and column grids are tight, often around crane bays. Drive-in lanes must line up between columns, so we measure the grid first and fit lane widths to it. Plants near SR-57, I-90 and the Ohio Turnpike also tend to serve both production lines and outbound trucks, which means replenishment paths to the line have to stay open beside the dense block.
Sizing Drive-In Rack for Elyria Forklifts and Loads
Forklift fit decides the design. We measure the truck's overall width, mast and overhead guard height, and the lift needed for the uppermost rail level. Lane width is set so the truck clears the uprights with room for the operator to work without scraping.
Pallet consistency matters. Drive-in rails support the pallet along its edges, so the pallets you actually use must be measured and checked for damage. Mixed sizes or broken bottom boards cause trouble deep in a lane.
Lane depth comes from pallets per SKU. We look at how many pallets of each item you hold and how quickly they turn, then set depth so lanes empty fully rather than holding a few old loads at the back.
Cooler and freezer space is another common use. Cold rooms are expensive to run, so packing more pallets into them pays back quickly. In those buildings, we specify cold-rated components and plan installation around the room's operating schedule.
Installation is done by experienced crews we schedule and manage. They anchor uprights, set rails level and confirm guide alignment before the system goes into use.
